FAQs

We grow quality flowers for local flower enthusiasts. If that’s you, but you have some questions about our flowers, how we grow, or anything else…this page is for you!

Why does local matter?

The majority of cut flowers sold in the United States are grown in other countries and flown thousands of miles before they find a final home with you. These blooms are often harvested up to a week before you buy them, which means they don’t always last as long as you hope they will. Locally grown flowers have a much smaller carbon footprint and are often cut the same day or the day before they end up on your kitchen table or work desk. When you buy locally grown flowers, you help increase local biodiversity, support the local economy, and strengthen Maryland’s agricultural tradition and farm families. Best of all—you get the longest lasting blooms possible. And that means long-lasting happiness!

What is your growing season?

We generally have flowers from mid-March through mid-November. Availability varies throughout the year. Our earliest flowers include ranunculus and snapdragons, both of which are grown under protection in our high tunnels. Early field flowers include peonies, yarrow, and allium, closely followed by cheerful sunflowers. By mid-July, our annuals are in full bloom: celosia, cosmos, gomphrena, statice, strawflowers, and the ever-popular zinnias. In late summer, dahlias take centerstage, only to be followed by heirloom mums and the exotic pumpkin-on-a-stick.

Do you do weddings and events?

We enjoy creating farm bouquets for market and farmstand, but we can’t claim to be professional designers. If you are looking for a top-quality designer, we can make some trusted recommendations. On the other hand, if you love the DIY concept, we offer buckets of beautiful, seasonal blooms, tailored to your color palette of choice. Click here for more information.

Are you an organic farm?

We practice organic growing practices whenever possible, but no, we are not certified organic. Growing flowers organically can be challenging, but we are always striving to learn new sustainable, regenerative techniques that contribute to a healthier ecosystem from the ground up. We are always transparent about our techniques, so if you ever have a question, just ask!

I am a photographer. Can I use your farm for a photoshoot?

We love that others think our farm is beautiful, too. We allow professional photographers and their clients to book one-hour sessions on our farm. (Sorry, but no mini sessions, please!) Our booking fee is $100 per hour session. If you are interested in scheduling a photoshoot at Belvedere, please email us (flowers@belvederefarm.com) to set up a session. Full disclosure: our fields look best from July through September!
