Our Team
We love our Belvedere Farm crew. Some folks have been around for years (or even decades!), while others find inspiration in our fields for a season or two before moving on. No matter how long they are with us, our past and present crew members are what makes Belvedere such a special place. We celebrate each season with good food, friendship, and laughter during our harvest dinner, which we hold annually after the last summer harvest.
Here are the team members who manage the day-to-day operations at Belvedere.
Bill Harlan - Owner
Bill knows pretty much everything there is to know about growing flowers. Thankfully, he loves to share what he knows, so our farm crew learns something new under his tutelage every day. In 2023, Bill was honored as Harford County’s Farmer of the Year, but the truth is, he deserves that title every year. His easy-going nature and quirky sense of humor is one of the things that makes Belvedere a magical place. One of his favorite pastimes is to watch the songbirds partake in the feeders he set up outside the farm office window. And although his current crop choice might not suggest it, Bill’s favorite thing to grow is…corn.
Elizabeth Harlan - Owner & Head of Operations
Elizabeth (Beth) is Bill’s daughter who, after practicing law for over 20 years, finally fell victim to the lure of the fields. Since joining her father on the farm, she has learned more than she ever dreamed possible about growing flowers…and loves every minute of it. She lives on the farm with her family, just down the hill from the farmhouse. Beth enjoys running to stay fit for farmwork, and loves spending time with her kids as they experience life. Because she loves the cycle of growth and rest they go through year after year, her favorite flower is the dahlia.
Shelley Brosius - Farm Manager
Shelley discovered Belvedere Farm while enjoying a long run one weekend. She went back, bought some flowers…and asked for a job. She joined the farm crew in 2018 and quickly fell in love with Belvedere’s magic. Shelley is a lifelong runner who also enjoys hiking in the Gunpowder State Park, making tasty things to eat, and pretty much all things music. She can often be found in the field singing happily as she harvests. She likes to say that her favorite flower is whichever one just came into bloom, but really it is probably the strawflower because it, too, makes music in the field.
